On Monday, April 15 2025, ALLRAIL joined the Implementation Dialogue on high-speed rail, hosted by EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apóstolos Tzitzikóstas, to discuss how to improve high-speed rail connectivity across Europe.
ALLRAIL was represented by our Board Director Alvaro Ungurean, who was accompanied by Laurent Fourtune from our member, new entrant KEVIN SPEED (ilisto).
During the exchange, Álvaro Ungurean underlined that building infrastructure alone is insufficient, competition and market opening are essential to ensure new high-speed rail lines are fully utilized. He also stressed the need to resolve ongoing issues such as fragmented ticketing, which the upcoming Single Digital Booking and Ticketing Regulation (SDBTR) could help address. Additionally, he pointed to Spain as a successful example of how lowering track access charges can increase usage. Finally, he highlighted that while high-speed rail is vital, it must not overshadow investment in conventional and regional rail services, which remain key to overall connectivity.
