Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking – in collaboration with ALLRAIL, CER and UNIFE – is kicking-off 2023 with a dedicated online joint press event exploring the main findings coming from the ‘Smart and Affordable High-Speed Services in the European Union’ study. The event will take place on 23 January at 11:00 CET, online.
Last June during the Connecting Europe Days in Lyon, ALLRAIL and the three other organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch this joint initiative.
The event will be an opportunity to present the main findings of the report, underpinning the establishment of a European High-Speed Rail (HSR) Network connecting the main European cities and regions, combining investments in constructing creating/upgrading new HSR lines and upgrading the digitalisation and automation of existing ones. The report confirms that investing in a comprehensive European HSR network will deliver added value to European society and massively reduce the environmental footprint of European passenger transport.
In addition, the report proposes a master plan for HSR network connecting all EU capitals and major cities and calls for the Commission and Member States for a coordinated implementation with sufficient funding in the next decades.
The event will further elaborate on the main findings and present the master plan. It will also feature a short panel discussion moderated by EU-Rail’s Executive Director Carlo Borghini, during which ALLRAIL’s Secretary General will speak.
Finally, the event will encourage the press and the audience to express their comments and questions.
